Let the Right One In

Let the Right One In is a Swedish vampire movie that deals with the young, bullied Oskar his new neighbor Eli, (pronounced Ellie) and the friendship that grows between the two. Unbeknown to Oskar, Eli is a 200 yr. old vampire forever stuck in the body of a 12 yr old girl. This, however, doesn't come between the feelings of young love and their burgeoning relationship. The movie is well shot and does an excellent job conveying the feeling of isolation in this Swedish community. The special effects are all believable, with only a CGI cat scene standing out. Given the nature of the scene, the cats are more than passable and don't detract from the movie. This is much more of a drama than an action flick, so those looking for a balls out vampire movie will be disappointed, but if you're looking for a vampire movie that's unlike any other vampire movie you've seen, I say check this one out. It should be noted there's an American version that's in post production by Matt Reeves, the director of Cloverfield, but why wait for that one when the original got everything right to begin with.
